How to Register for NIS Recruitment 2026/2027

There are generally three categories of the National Intelligence Service recruitment that applicants can register under. They are:

  1. Graduate Trainee
  2. Diploma Trainee
  3. Certificate Trainee

Depending on the educational degree you possess, you can apply for the one you fall under. 

For example, if you’re a graduate and you have a B.Sc. degree, you are expected to apply for the graduate trainee program but if you have a diploma, then you’ll apply for the diploma trainee program.

However, if you have only KCSE or it’s equivalent, you’ll be applying for the certificate trainee program. To register for either of the above, you would first have to create an account on the NIS Career Portal. 

Eligibility Criteria for NIS Recruitment 2026/2027

  • You must be a national i.e Kenyan and you must reside in Kenya with a valid means of identification i.e National ID card. 
  • Graduate trainees must have a mean grade C+ in KCSE while diploma holders are expected to have a minimum of C (plain)  particularly in Kiswahili and English languages. On the other hand, certificate holders only need a minimum of D+ to qualify. 
  • Prospective applicants who are diploma holders must fall between ages 20 and 30 while certificate holders are expected to fall between 20 and 26 years old whereas prospective graduate trainees should be between 22 and 31 years old at the point of application. 
  • Applicants should be physically and mentally fit. 
  • Applicants should have no criminal history or background.
  • Your certificate must be from a recognized institution and must cover a minimum of 6 months of study.
